Washington [US]April 8 (ANI): US President Joe Biden on Friday thanked the Slovak government for providing an S-300 air defense system to Ukraine and said that to enable this transfer and ensure the continued security of Slovakia, the United States will reposition a US Patriot missile system in Slovakia.
It comes at a time when Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger said on Friday that his country had provided an S-300 air defense system to Ukraine against Russian aggression.
“I would like to thank the Slovak government for providing an S-300 air defense system to Ukraine, which President Zelenskyy personally raised with me during our conversations. To enable this transfer and ensure the continued security of Slovakia, the United States will reposition a US Patriot missile system in Slovakia,” Biden said in his statement.
Biden underscored US support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. “Since the beginning of my administration, the United States has placed the highest priority on providing critical military capabilities to Ukraine so that it can defend itself against Russian aggression,” he added.
Highlighting the U.S. military capabilities provided to Ukraine, Biden noted, “The whole world has now witnessed the effectiveness of these weapons, as the courageous Ukrainian forces have used them to repel the Russian attack on kyiv, maintain the disputed Ukrainian skies and deliver heavy blows to the Russian military.”
In addition to US-produced weapons, Biden said the US has also worked to facilitate the transfer of capabilities from allies and partners around the world. Biden stressed, “Now is not the time to be complacent.”
The president also slammed Russia, saying the Russian military may have failed in its goal of capturing kyiv, but continues to “inflict horrific acts of brutality on the Ukrainian people.”
“As the Russian military repositions itself for the next phase of this war, I have directed my administration to continue to spare no effort to identify and provide the Ukrainian military with the advanced weaponry capabilities it needs. to defend his country,” he added. (ANI)
