Ukraine seizes the Russian Pantsir-S1

As the battle for Kiev unfolded, President Zelensky’s forces said they had captured the Russian Pantsir-S1 air defense missile system. The premium missile defense system is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun and missile system (SPAAGM).

It is a mobile missile defense system with a range of 20 km. It has been in service since 2003 in different versions. Pantsir-S1 is a ground to air (SAM) defense system with 20 kg high-explosive fragmentation warheads.

The system is also owned by Iran, Iraq, SloveniaBrazil, Algeria, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

Ukrainian forces said they had captured a “special trophy” in the form of an anti-aircraft missile system while adding that one MiG-29, three Bayraktar TB-2 drones and a Tochka-U tactical missile system were destroyed even as Russian forces fought their way towards Kiev.
