Solcom deploys more than 1,000 military forces to secure the SEA Games in Calabarzon

LUCENA CITY – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in southern Luzon deployed combined air, land and sea forces to secure athletes and game venues for the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA) in the Calabarzon region.

Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay, commander of the Southern Luzon Military Command (Solcom) based here at Camp Nakar, said they had deployed 1,300 army soldiers, navy sailors, airmen with a reserve an Army infantry battalion and another Philippine Air Force combat group to secure athletes, coaches, staff and venues for the SEA Games.

“Contingency plans for all eventualities are simulated and the multi-agency coordination center is already [established] and fully operational. We will leave nothing to chance in terms of security preparation, ”Gapay said in a statement released on Saturday by Lieutenant-Colonel Dennis Cana, Solcom’s public information officer.

Gapay expressed confidence that the Philippines’ hosting of the biennial regional multisport event will be smooth and successful.

“Let us give our full support to all of our Filipino athletes and all work together to win together,” he said.
