A suspected union member with links to the Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf bandits and identified as the prime suspect in the murder of a retired policeman over a year ago in the city of Zamboanga said was arrested on Monday August 2.

Police identified the arrested suspect as Jimbo Taning Asani, who was arrested by joint police and military forces as part of an arrest warrant operation in Sitio Sayugan, Barangay Maganda, Lamitan town, Basilan province. .

Police said Asani was the prime suspect in the murder of Edwin Solis, a retired police officer, on March 11, 2020 in the village of Sangali, east of Zamboanga town.

Solis was buying a cigarette in a store when the suspect arrived and shot the victim without provocation.

Police said the suspect was a member of the local gun and drugs union, formerly headed by the late Abner Muharram, aka Small Boy.

Police added that currently Asani is reportedly under the control of the gun and drug union led by Danny Hajiri Bairulla and has links to the Abu Sayyaf bandits in Tuburan, Basilan.

Police said Asani was on the regional priority target list of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Regional Police Office and the seventh most wanted person in the Zamboanga City Police Office. (SunStar Zamboanga)
