ADG KR Suresh takes over as Commander Coast Guard, West Coast — Transcontinental Times


INDIA. Mumbai: Deputy Director General (DDG) (Operations and Coastal Security), Kandambakkam Ramani Suresh, on promotion as Additional Director General, Indian Coast Guard (GIC), took up his post as Commander of the Coast Guard (West Coast), in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Prior to his appointment at Western Seaboard, he served as DDG at Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi for over 04 years. He oversaw the successful execution of major operations for the ICG.

According to a statement released by the ICG on Wednesday, the flag officer will be in charge of the ICG’s West Coast sector, which includes Coast Guard Regions (West) and (Northwest). This sector is responsible for ocean security of the strategic maritime borders between Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman, Diu, Karnataka and Kerala, as well as Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands.

During his 35 years of outstanding service, ADG Suresh held a variety of important command and staff positions, afloat and ashore. He commanded Indian Coast Guard Vessels – Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel “Sagar”offshore patrol boat “Varuna”fast patrol boat “Annie Besant”and coastal patrol boat “Kittur Chennamma”. His significant command positions ashore include Commander Coast Guard Region (Andaman and Nicobar), Commander Coast Guard District No. 3 (Karnataka) and Commander ICGS. “Mandapam”.

The general officer is an officer specialized in communication and electronic warfare. He is an alumnus of the prestigious National Defense College New Delhi, Naval Higher Command Course, Karanja (Raigad, Maharashtra) and Defense Services Staff College, Wellington (Tamil Nadu).

He also has various academic achievements, namely M.Sc (Telecommunications), M.Sc (Strategic Defense Studies), M.Phil (Strategic Defense Studies), PGDBA in OPS MGMT and PGDBA in HRM with a specialization in foundation in mathematics from the University of Madras.

He is the recipient of the prestigious President’s Award “Tatrakshak” medal for distinguished service to the nation. He was awarded a Special Operation Badge – for successful maritime security operations on the Sri Lankan coast in 2020 and 2021 by the Director General of ICG.
